Somerset, Swansea and Seekonk Schools Parent’s Rights Workshop and Community Resource Fair

Somerset, Swansea and Seekonk Public Schools Special Education Departments and Somerset Parents Advisory Council on Education (PACE) will be providing a Parent’s Rights Workshop and Community Resource Fair at the Somerset Middle School (1141 Brayton Avenue in Somerset) on Thursday, October 6th beginning at 5pm. The fair and workshop are free and open to the public.

The Community Resource Fair from 5 to 6:30 pm will feature a number of vendors in the local region for children and teens of all ability levels including things that get kids moving, like Wiggle Kids, Teamworks Somerset, Sudbury Adaptive Recreation, Seekonk Recreation, Somerset AIRE, Montella’s Self Defense, Kearney’s American Martial Arts, and USA Karate. Also represented will be community help and service providers such as People Inc., The Fernandes Center, Community Autism Resources, Aspergers Association of New England, Pace Child Care Works and Community Counseling of Bristol County. Information on programs from Somerset and Swansea Public Libraries and tutoring and test preparation services from A Great Place to Learn and Sylvan Learning will also be available.

The Parent’s Rights Workshop for educators and families of children with special needs in the region and will give an overview of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, including how and when a child may be evaluated for special needs or specific learning disabilities and the process for developing an IEP and determining related services. This workshop will begin at 6:30 pm and will include a question and answer session at the end of the presentation.
